Thousands Across Southeast Michigan Without Power After Storms

DETROIT — Thousands of people in southeast Michigan are without power after storms passed through the region early Thursday morning.

According to the DTE Energy outage map, more than 5,200 people in the Metro Detroit area are without electricity. The outages are spread across the region in groupings smaller than 100 customers, with larger outages concentrated southwest of Bloomfield Township and between Milford and Commerce.

The storms knocked out power for more people on the western side of Michigan, where Consumers Energy reports nearly 8,000 customers are still without power.

Nearly 1,000 people in a rural region between Leroy Township and Athens are without power after trees knocked down wires in the area. Other outages are reported north of Kalamazoo, near Plainwell and Otsego.
