Crime in Michigan: Down Statewide in 2014, Plus Northville Stats

Statistics for violent and property crimes such as murder, rape and burglary released in yearly FBI report.

Statewide violent and property crime declined in Michigan in 2014, according to the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report.

In 2014, there were 42,334 known occurrences of violent crime, and 202,547 of property crime. The report categorizes murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault as violent crimes and burglary, larceny/theft and motor vehicle theft as property crimes.

These numbers represent a decline from a reported 44,523 known violent crimes and 230,334 property crimes in 2013.

In Northville there were 26 incidents of violent crime and 853 incidents of property crime in 2014.

Michigan State Police did not immediately return a phone call asking for comment.

The population of Michigan increased from 9,895,622 to 9,909,877, according to the FBI report.
