Couple In I-275 Wrong Way Crash Identified

A Wayne couple has been identified by police as the people killed in Tuesday's crash in Canton Township.

CANTON, MI — Shannon McIntyre and Nicholas Lee Pare, a Wayne couple engaged to be married, have been identified as the people killed Tuesday morning on I-275 by a wrong-way driver, according to a WWJ-Radio report. The couple, both 33, were hit head-on while traveling northbound near Palmer Road in Canton Township.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene, Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said. A 59-year-old man from Wolverine Lake drove the vehicle that hit the McIntyre and Pare, Shaw said.

Calls came in from drivers about the man driving the wrong way at about 10:36 a.m., Shaw said. He was near Ford Road when the first call came in.

An investigation is ongoing. Michigan State Police told WWJ-Radio Wednesday it could up to six weeks before autopsy results are in on McIntyre and Pare. Charges against the Wolverine Lake man, if any, would come after the case is presented to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
