Drunken Driver Intentionally Rams 2 People, Multiple Parked Cars In Westland: Police

A Westland woman is facing more than two dozen charges in connection with the incident.

WESTLAND, MI — A suspected drunken driver is facing more than a dozen charges after police said she intentionally hit two people and multiple parked cars Saturday in a Westland neighborhood.

April Marie Graves, 43, of Westland, was speeding while intoxicated in Westland in the area of Wildwood Street and Ford Road on Saturday evening when she plowed into two people, according to police.

The 32-year-old man and the 31-year-old woman were unloading groceries from their vehicle when Graves smashed into them, pinning the man between the two cars, according to police.

The man had to have part of his leg amputated, according to WXYZ.

Police also said Graves smashed into several other cars on Wildwood street.

When officers showed up they found Graves sitting in her car at the site of one of the collisions, according to police.

Graves was charged with:

  • Two counts of assault with intent to murder
  • Two counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder of by strangulation
  • Operating while intoxicated causing serious injury
  • Reckless driving causing serious impairment of a body function
  • Two counts malicious destruction of building - $1,000 or more but less than $20,000
  • Two counts of malicious destruction of personal property - $1,000 or more but less than $20,000
  • Two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, (Felonious assault)
  • Police officer – Assaulting/Resisting/Obstructing
  • Alcohol – Open container in vehicle

She was placed in jail with a $850,000 bond. Her next court date is scheduled for Aug. 22.
