Drug Store Burglaries Linked: Sheriff

The Oakland County Sheriff said a Commerce Township burglary was likely committed by suspects who also hit a Rochester Hills pharmacy.

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — A Monday burglary of a Commerce Township pharmacy is believed to be related to a string of break-ins at drug stores in Rochester Hills as well as Macomb and Monroe counties, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

Three men said to be wearing hats, gloves and masks entered the Commerce Family Pharmacy in the 2000 block of Union Lake Road at about 2:30 Monday morning, deputies said in a news release. The suspects allegedly pried the front door open and then took $50 in cash out of a register before fleeing in two vehicles, reports said.

A dark colored sedan and a white SUV, possibly a Chevrolet Tahoe, were used by the suspects to get away, the sheriff’s office said.

The pharmacy owner provided the sheriff’s office with video of the incident. Based on an analysis of this video, the modus operandi and the bag carried by the suspects in the Commerce Township break-in, deputies believe that the same men are linked to similar crimes around metropolitan Detroit.

The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. There is a cash reward of $1,000 for information leading to an arrest and you will remain anonymous.
