SMART Flex Mobile App Offers Detroit-Area Transit Service

ROYAL OAK, MI – Oakland County has launched SMART Flex, Detroit's first on-demand transit service.

The service is intended to extend access to public transit and provide trips to vaccine centers across the Detroit metro area through a mobile app.

SMART Flex began services this week and will also extend to Macomb and Wayne counties.

Using the app, anyone within the service zones will be able to hail a vehicle directly from their smartphone or by calling the call center at 734-212-8429. Riders will be directed to a nearby "virtual bus stop" for pick up and drop off.

The service will also wheelchair-accessible vehicles and door-to-door service for those who have limited mobility.

Trips will be offered from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Rides start at $2 and have a maximum price of $8, depending on distance. Payment can be made via credit card or with Dart of SMART Passes.
