Suspect Swindles Jeep From Troy Woman

After placing a Craigslist ad, the woman sold the Jeep after she thought his check had cleared.

TROY, MI — A Troy woman was recently bilked out of her 2012 Jeep Cherokee after placing an ad to sell it on Craigslist, according to police reports. She found a buyer after posting the ad and he sent her a check for $11,995 that went directly to her credit union.

Four days later, the Troy woman contacted her credit union and was told the check was valid and that it had “cleared,” reports said. The Jeep was then picked-up by the buyer at her Hickory Street home and driven away.

A few hours after releasing the Jeep, the woman credit union contacted her and informed her that the check she received was fraudulent, reports said. She then discovered the vehicle on Craigslist in Chicago, but when she tried to contact the seller, the ad was quickly removed, reports said.
