Troy Police Officer Arrested on Suspicion of Drunken Driving

Police say that the officer, who was placed on administrative leave following the arrest, blood tested at over three times the legal limit.

The following information about police incidents is taken directly from the most recent Troy Police Department media releases.

East Big Beaver and Rochester Road, Jan. 18, 12:02 a.m.: Troy officers at Rochester and Big Beaver observed a pickup truck east bound on Big Beaver strike the median curb twice. The vehicle drove up on the median and came to a stop.  Officers approached the vehicle and identified an off-duty Troy Police Officer as the driver of the vehicle. Officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver and compartment area.

A Troy Police supervisor conducted an investigation and placed the driver into custody for “Operating while Intoxicated.”  The driver refused a breathalyzer test and a search warrant was obtained for a blood draw. The blood sample was analyzed by the Michigan State Police.  The result of the test sample indicated a 0.27 blood alcohol content (BAC). A warrant request was submitted to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for review. The officer has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of criminal and internal investigations. 

Assaults

Macy’s, 2750 West Big Beaver, Jan. 25, 8:17 p.m.: Officers were dispatched on a retail fraud being detained by Loss Prevention and the subject was “uncooperative.”  Officers made the scene and Somerset Troy Police Liaison Officer had the subject in custody for a theft of“True Religion” jeans, hat and a two hoodies in which the suspect stuffed the merchandise in a bag he brought into the store.  The store Loss Prevention Officers attempted to detain the suspect originally and the suspect “pushed” the Loss Prevention Officer and also grabbed the Officer’s arm and wrist causing only minor injuries.  Suspect charged with retail fraud and assault and battery.

Auto/vehicle thefts

2000 block of Valley View, Jan. 26, 12 midnight: Complainant reports his step-brother had taken possession of her 1998 Ford Mustang and sold it to a “friend” without her permission. 

Drugs/narcotics

City of Troy Lockup, 500 West Big Beaver, Jan. 26, 2:27 a.m.: Officers picked up a prisoner from a neighboring jurisdiction on a Troy warrant. Upon a search of the prisoner it was discovered she had marijuana on her person along with two marijuana cookies labeled “Delectable Edible Medible Chocolate Chip Hash Cookies.” The suspect stated she does not have a medical marijuana card and she was subsequently charged with “possession of marijuana.”

Larcenies

Troy Community Center, 3179 Livernois, Jan. 25, 8:45–11:15 p.m.: Complaint reports she was attending a birthday party at the Troy Community Center and placed her iPhone in her coat pocket along with two other iPhones belonging to her friends. The coat she placed on a table and upon retrieval of her coat found all three iPhones missing.

Larcenies from autos

There was one larceny from an auto where a GPS, leather coat and miscellaneous clothing were taken.

Suspicious incidents

Oakland Mall, 412 W 14 Mile, 1/25/2014, 1:30 pm: Officers on routine patrol in lot observed a suspicious vehicle and occupants.  Upon officers approaching the vehicle the driver was observed quickly throwing an unknown object/substance.  Officers made contact and they stated they “were going into the mall” however officers observed them for an extended period of time where they sat in the vehicle.  Upon a computer check of the subjects it was determined the passenger had a valid arrest warrant out of Farmington.  She was subsequently arrested on the warrant.
