Beloved Metro Detroit Bowling Alley Closing In August After 76 Years

The small eight-lane bowling alley was kept in the family through three generations after opening in 1948.

WYANDOTTE, MI β€” One of Michigan's most beloved bowling alleys will close in August after 76 years.

Biddle Bowl, located on the corner of Biddle Avenue and Labadie Street in Wyandotte, will close on Aug. 23 after the building was sold to redevelopers, according to the family who owns the alley.

The building will not be turned into another bowling alley, but rather a storage facility as current owners Robert Woelkers Jr. and Judy Sadler slide into retirement, according to news reports.

The eight-lane bowling alley was kept in the family through three generations after opening in 1948. Over the years, the family kept the small bowling center up to date, including adding new lanes, automatic pinsetters, automatic scoring system and a lane conditioner and oil machine.
