MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesotans can now get their first look at the kind of weather to expect over the Fourth of July weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, the Fourth of July in the Twin Cities metro will feature: "a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms" but will be "mostly sunny, with a high near 81. West southwest wind 5 to 10 mph."

Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 71. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph.

Saturday Night: Patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 53. North northwest wind 10 to 15 mph decreasing to 5 to 10 mph after midnight.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 74. Calm wind becoming east southeast around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 58. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph.

Monday: A chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 74. Breezy, with a south southeast wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Monday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Low around 64. South wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

Tuesday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. South wind around 10 mph becoming west in the afternoon.

Tuesday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1am. Mostly clear, with a low around 65. West wind 5 to 10 mph.
