Professor Convicted Of Cheating Ex-Wife Out Of Retirement Money

Massoud Amin, 57, was found guilty of attempted theft by swindle and aggravated forgery.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - A University of Minnesota professor has been convicted of trying to reduce the value of his retirement accounts so his ex-wife would not get her share of the assets.

Massoud Amin, 57, was found guilty of attempted theft by swindle and aggravated forgery in Hennepin County District Court. Amin tried to falsify the value of the marital assets by forging financial statements in one retirement account and omitting information in a second account, according to prosecutors. Sentencing for Amin is scheduled for Nov. 9.

Amin’s ex-wife could have been cheated out of nearly $354,000 in assets, the Star Tribune reports.

Amin is a professor of electrical and computer engineering and the director of the Technological Leadership Institute at the University of Minnesota. The university says it will be reviewing the matter.
