3 Burnsville Schools Removed From MDH's COVID-19 Outbreak List

BURNSVILLE, MN — Gideon Pond Elementary School, William Byrne Elementary School and Joseph Nicollet Middle School were all recently removed from Minnesota Department of Health's list of schools that have had recent COVID-19 outbreaks.

ISD 191 switched to distance learning for two days last week to control the spread of COVID-19, and Joseph Nicollet Middle School switched to distance learning Jan. 7-18, despite being removed from the list.

45 schools in Dakota County were on the list this week.

Two Burnsville Schools are currently on the list:

• Echo Park Elementary School
  • Reported between 5-9 cases between Oct. 3-16, 5-9 cases from Oct. 31-Nov. 13, 5-9 cases Nov. 14-27 and 5-9 cases Nov. 28-Dec. 11. The school remains on the list and MDH said it will post more information when it is available.
• Burnsville High School
  • Reported between 10-19 cases from Oct. 31-Nov. 13, 5-9 cases from Nov. 14-27, 5-9 cases from Dec. 12-25 and 5-9 cases Dec. 26-Jan. 8. The school remains on the list and MDH said it will post more information when it is available.

A school has an outbreak when it reports five or more confirmed cases of the virus in students or staff who were in the building while infectious during the most recent two-week reporting period.

"School buildings listed may not have ongoing transmission," MDH noted. "School buildings that have not reported a new case for 28 days will be removed. If five or more cases are reported in a school building in a subsequent 2-week period, they will once again be listed."
