Edina's Public Works Building Comes Tumbling Down

The City of Edina plans to clear the site, then plant it with ground cover until a new project can be identified and constructed.

Minnesota's never-ending winter might have delayed it a few weeks, but Edina's former Public Works building is finally being demolished.

A special thanks goes out to Patch reader Chris Rofidal (@RofidalChris on Twitter) for sharing some excellent before and after photos of the demolition process.

The demolition of the building and clearing of the site are costing the City of Edina $98,700 in total, with funds coming from Edina's Housing and Redevelopment Authority budget. The city reports the site's existing trees will be retained during the demolition process.

Once the Public Works building is gone, the site will be planted with ground cover to help it remain presentable until a new project can be identified and constructed.

The building was declared substandard and eligible for inclusion in a future GrandView Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District, as the costs to update it would have far exceeded thresholds identified in Minnesota Statutes.
