Fireworks To Light Up Edina July 3rd; Parade Set For Independence Day

Fireworks are set to be launched Sunday night over Rosland Park, with Edina's annual July 4th parade scheduled for the next morning.

EDINA, MN — Edina officials are planning two days of festivities to celebrate July 4th and mark the return of holiday festivities after two years.

City officials are partnering with the Edina Community Foundation to host several Independence Day events.

A fife-and-drum performance is scheduled to kick off the celebration at 8 p.m. Sunday at Rosland Park, with the First John Philip Sousa Memorial Band to play a holiday concert at 8:45 p.m.

Fireworks are scheduled to start after the concert, officials said.

Edina’s annual Fourth of July parade is due to start at 10 a.m. Monday at Edina City Hall. About 20,000 people are expected to descend on the parade route, which follows West 50th Street to its intersection with Halifax Avenue.

The theme of this year’s parade is “Edina United, Celebrating Our Past, Present & Future.” Edina Public Schools Superintendent Stacie Stanley is the parade’s grand marshal. More than 85 groups are expected to participate in the parade.

Officials are encouraging parade-goers to bring their own chairs or blankets as bleachers will not be set up.

The parade will be broadcast live on Edina TV and on the city’s Facebook page.

City offices, the Edina Senior Center and Edinborough Park will be closed Monday for the holiday, while Braemar Arena is due to close at 1 p.m., Braemar Golf Course will close at 3 p.m. and Edina Liquor will close at 6 p.m., officials said.

The city and the Edina Community Foundation are also set to sponsor a veterans dinner from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Saturday to “thank area veterans for their service to our country.”
