LETTER: Lions President Looks Back in Successful Year

Outgoing Edina Lions President Luke Hellier reflects on the organization's last 12 months.

To the Editor:

The thirtieth of June marks my last day as President of the Edina Lions Club. I want to offer my sincerest thanks on behalf of the club for all the support the community has given over the last year.

Edina Lions are a passionate group of citizens who thrive on the generosity and involvement of their neighbors and friends. Each year, the club holds a pancake breakfast, waffle breakfast, and various other fundraising events.

Thanks to members of the Edina community, our club was able to donate to several groups in need:

  • $250 to the Minnesota Fighting Lions Blind Softball Team
  • $500 to PACER Center
  • $500 to HOBY Kids
  • $1,000 to several foundations that support the blind including the University of Minnesota Eye Bank
  • $5,000 to the City of Edina for a ticket booth at the new baseball field
  • Over 1,000 pairs of eyeglasses to Minnesota Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center
  • Helped several Edina families in need receive vision exams and eyeglasses
The people of Edina certainly have big hearts. We are honored to have served such a giving community and I am proud of the work the Edina Lions have accomplished.

Thank you again for your involvement. To learn more about the Edina Lions, please visit edinalions.org.
