5 Nonprofits To Get Behind In The Lakeville Area

Here are five outstanding nonprofit groups you should know about in the Lakeville area.

APPLE VALLEY, MN — Nonprofit groups are keystone community organizations in the Apple Valley area. Fortunately, there is no shortage of organizations to volunteer or get behind financially, and that need your help.

Here are five outstanding nonprofit groups you should know about in the Apple Valley area:

1. Lakeville Area Historical Society: The Lakeville Area Historical Society has been educating residents on the town's history since 1995. Volunteers and donations of images and small artifacts are welcome.

2. Lakeville Public Safety Foundation: Since 2014, the Lakeville Public Safety Foundation has worked to improve the capabilities of Lakeville's police and fire departments. Thanks to community partners, the LPSF has given out 206 grants worth $418,000.

3. Dakota Woodlands: Previously known as Mary’s Shelter, Dakota Woodlands serves pregnant girls and women as well as single or pregnant homeless women. Community members can donate their time, money, or items to help with the effort.

4. The Open Door: The Open Door provides food to low-income people and families in Dakota County. The Open Door gave out 2.6 million pounds of food in 2022, and 64 percent of that was fresh food.

5. Lebanon Hills: Lebanon Hills is a 2,000-acre parking offering miles of trails, lakes, shoreline, and other outdoor recreation spaces. Volunteers can help park staff with invasive species removal, seed collecting, tree and shrub planting, and other activities.
