City Of Lakeville: Help Keep Lakeville Waterbodies Healthy - Don't Leave Leaves Or Grass Clippings In The Street

Plastic bags do not break down during the composting process, so put those paper bags to good use!

November 10, 2021

Did you know blowing leaves into the street contributes to algae blooms in Lakeville lakes, ponds and streams? When leaves enter waterbodies, they break down and release nutrients that harm fish, aquatic plants and contribute to beach closures, even at this time of year. Help keep Lakeville waterbodies healthy by placing leaves into compostable (paper) bags. Your waste hauler may be nearing the end of the composting season, so contact them to see how much longer you can put your compost bin or paper compost bags out and ask if you can request a special pickup afterwards. If they are not able to do that, you can find compost sites here: https://www.dakotavalleyrecycling.org/residential-guide/50-yard-waste-sites
