No motive was known, Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena in a statement. "Our deepest sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Tracy Maloney, Jack Maloney, and Scott Maloney, for their great loss," she added.

Just before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, police did a welfare check on Tracy Maloney at a house in the 5400 block of 183rd Street West.

Tracy Maloney — who lived in Lakeville — had gone to the house of her ex-husband, Jack Maloney, in Farmington that day to visit her sons, Blake Maloney and Scott Maloney, authorities said.

An officer met Blake Maloney at the house, police said. When the officer asked about the other people in the house, Blake Maloney replied, "I did something. I murdered them or something," according to the criminal complaint.

Blake told police he shot Jack Maloney and Scott Maloney with an AR-15 assault weapon, investigators said. He told police he used a hammer on Tracy Maloney because he did not want to use the gun anymore, police said.

Blake also told police he didn't believe Jack Maloney, Tracy Maloney and Scott Maloney were his family, according to the criminal complaint.

The officer found the bodies of three people in the house, according to investigators.
