Minnesota Connections Academy Recognizes Lakeville Students

Student of the Month Award recognizes achievements in and out of the virtual classroom

Anaya Havelka and Alice Stanford of Lakeville were recently selected to be among Minnesota Connections Academy’s (MNCA) Students of the Month in recognition of their achievements and leadership in the virtual classroom.

Anaya, a first grader at the statewide, public online school, was nominated by her teacher, Ms. Ajla, because of the outstanding progress she has made since coming to the school. Alice, a junior, was nominated by her teacher, Mrs. Severson, because of her determination to succeed academically. As a Student of the Month, Anaya and Alice will each receive a certificate of achievement and be profiled in the Minnesota Connections Academy student newsletter and the school’s social media platforms.

“Our students of the month demonstrate leadership and an extraordinary commitment to learning while serving as strong role models for their peers,” said Brad Swanson, School Leader at Minnesota Connections Academy. “The members of our faculty and staff are proud to give these virtual classroom leaders the recognition they deserve.”

According to her mother Amy, Anaya was struggling in a traditional classroom. She often felt overwhelmed and was not able to get the support she needed. They enrolled Anaya in Minnesota Connections Academy this year and it has made a big difference.

“All of the teachers are so patient, kind, and understanding,” Amy said. “They understand what Anaya needs and are always willing to help.”

Alice also came to Minnesota Connections Academy this academic year in search of a learning environment that offered the courses she wanted and the flexibility she needed. According to her mother, Ann, making the transition to online learning was easy for Alice and it’s giving her the confidence to challenge herself.

“Alice is thriving at Minnesota Connections Academy and plans to pursue PSEO (Post Secondary Enrollment Options) courses as well in the fall,” she said.
