National Curling Competition Coming to Lakeville in March

20 Elite teams will compete in this 8 day competition to name a national champion.

Dakota Curling is bringing a national curling championship right into the heart of historic downtown Lakeville for the second time in 12 months. Recently announced as the host site for Club Nationals, Dakota Curling will welcome 20 teams of elite competitive curlers from across the country as they compete for the title of National Champion, March 9 – 16 2019.

Club Nationals invites 10 men’s teams and 10 women’s teams to compete, each team having advanced through a regional qualifier. Teams will play in a round-robin format, with top teams advancing to a single-elimination championship bracket on the final two days of competition.

Opened in Lakeville in January 2017, Dakota Curling has quickly grown to be the fourth largest club in the state of Minnesota and the eighth largest club nationwide.

Dakota Curling hosted its first national competition with Mixed Nationals in April of 2018. This week-long event drew spectators from a multi-state region and its success established Dakota Curling as a premier venue for competitive curling events.

The upcoming Club Nationals championship is expected to draw hundreds of visitors into downtown Lakeville for a full 8 days, including athletes, spectators, officials, and volunteers. Considering that most athletes and many spectators are out of town guests, this event is estimated to bring over $140,000 in economic impact to the Lakeville area.

All events are open to the public and are family-friendly. Spectators may purchase day passes or week-long passes to view games. A limited number of tickets will also be available for an event banquet in which guests can interact in a social setting with the athletes.

Many volunteers are need to help run the event and those who volunteer three or more shifts will receive free passes to watch games on all 8 days of competition.
