Texas Reporter Calls For Vengeance On MN Wild Player

A Texas-based newspaper reporter called for physical punishment of Matt Dumba in the Minnesota Wild-Dallas Stars playoff series.

DALLAS, TX — A Texas-based newspaper reporter is calling for the Dallas Stars to exact "old-school hockey justice" on a Minnesota Wild player in game two of the playoff series.

Minnesota Wild defenseman Matt Dumba was given a two-minute penalty for his hit on Joe Pavelski, which knocked the Stars center out of Monday's game.

But that isn't punishment enough, according to Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Mac Engel, tweeting that "Dumba must feel consequences to his hit on Joe Pavelski."

"What Dumba did to Pavelski could wreck the Stars’ postseason," writes Engel. "It needs to be handled. On the ice."

Michael Russo, The Athletic's Minnesota-based reporter, took issue with Engel's stance.

"A credentialed media member campaigning for this type of vengeance is disgraceful and beyond unprofessional," Russo said. "And video reviews are done in concert with the NHL Situation Room in Toronto not Dept of Player Safety in NYC, fyi."

It's not clear when Pavelski, 38, can return to play.

Game two of the round one, seven-game series is set for Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. in Dallas. The Wild won't host the Stars until Friday.
