MINNEAPOLIS — The University of Pittsburgh on Monday announced that Joan Gabel, current president at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, will be their next chancellor.

Gabel was hired as Minnesota's president in 2019. Her tenure as president will end up being half as long as her predecessor, Erik Kaler.

Gabel will be the 19th chancellor at Pittsburgh. She was the first woman to lead the University of Minnesota, and she will be the first woman to lead Pittsburgh since its founding in 1787.
