MN Again Ranks High In CNBC 'Top States For Business' List

ST. PAUL, MN — Minnesota is the sixth-best state in the nation for business, according to a new CNBC study.

Minnesota’s top-ten ranking is based on 128 metrics in 10 categories of competitiveness, including workforce, infrastructure, economy, quality of life, and business friendliness.

"These rankings are a testament to our focus on investing in key areas that make our businesses and economy strong: job training, workforce development, child care, and broadband access," Walz said in a statement Friday.

"Businesses in top industries, from health care to renewable energy and manufacturing, understand the benefits of investing and growing in Minnesota."

The Land of 10,000 Lakes sippled slightly compared to last year's rankings. In 2023, Minnesota jumped several states — including Texas — to join the top five in CNBC's list.

America's top ten states for businesses in 2024, according to CNBC, are:

  1. Virginia
  2. North Carolina
  3. Texas
  4. Georgia
  5. Florida
  6. Minnesota
  7. Ohio
  8. Tennessee
  9. Michigan
  10. Washington

The governor's office on Friday also highlighted recent positive business investments:

  • In June, Minnesota secured $213 million to finance Bioforge Marshall LLC, a 500,000-square-foot sustainable biomanufacturing facility in Marshall
  • In May, Polar Semiconductor announced a $525 million investment to expand their Bloomington facility
  • Last year, Mayo Clinic announced a $5 billion expansion in downtown Rochester
