dance ballet performing art kids family event entertainment

In the 1930’s, the Russian composer Sergie Prokofiev adapted the Russian Folk Tale, “Peter & The Wolf” to be told through music so that children would have a better understanding and appreciation of the instruments in an orchestra and the music that they make.
The story takes place outside the cottage of Peter’s Grandfather, not far from a dark and some what dangerous forest. Grandfather has told Peter not to venture near the forest but to stay inside the garden gate where it is safe. For what if a wolf should come? But there is so much adventure past the garden gate…
“Don Quixote” was originally choreographed by Marius Petipa to the music of Ludwig Minkus and first presented by the Ballet of the Imperial Bolshoi Theatre of Moscow, Russia on 26 December 1869. Petipa and Minkus revised the ballet into a far more expanded and elaborated edition in five acts and eleven scenes for the Imperial Ballet, first presented on 21 November 1871 at the Imperial Bolshoi Kamenny Theatre of St. Petersburg Russia. All modern productions of the Petipa/Minkus ballet are derived from the version staged by Alexander Gorsky for the Bolshoi Theatre of Moscow in 1900, a production the ballet master staged for the Imperial Ballet of St. Petersburg in 1902.
