Girl Killed Riding Bike In Minneapolis' Kingfield Neighborhood

The fatal crash happened on Monday morning in south Minneapolis.

MINNEAPOLIS — A girl was struck and killed in Minneapolis on Monday while riding her bike, according to police.

At about 8:30 a.m., officers from the 3rd Precinct responded to reports of a crash near the 5600 block of 2nd Avenue South. A girl was struck by a vehicle and was unconscious in the street, according to investigators.

She was transported to Hennepin Healthcare by emergency responders. "Despite all life-saving efforts, she died at the hospital," police said.

According to the preliminary investigation, the girl was riding her bicycle from a home's driveway into the street when she was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

The driver immediately pulled over and stopped to help, police said. No criminality is suspected, according to investigators.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the identity and cause of death of the victim.
