MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Uptown Minneapolis will never be quite the same. “Kitchen Window,” a 35-year-old kitchen and houseware store that also provided cooking classes in two test kitchens, will close in January.

“In our wildest dreams, we couldn’t have imagined what this store was to become and what it has meant to so many people,” president and co-owner Doug Huemoeller said in a statement. “We have hosted hundreds of thousands of guests in our cooking schools–developing skills and sharing the joy of food and cooking. We’ve served customers from every continent, including an uncountable number of Minnesotans.”

Huemoeller said the decision to close the business was “personal and internal to the company,” according to the company news release.

The store will begin an “everything must go” closing sale that will begin Black Friday, with nearly every item in the store 20% off. The cooking school will host a garage sale from Dec. 2-5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily that will sell used cooking equipment, cookware, bakeware, cutlery, gadgets, espresso machines, and more.

“We’re going to bring down the curtain in the same style we opened the doors,” Huemoeller said. “We’re talking with our suppliers and distributors to make sure we’ll be able to offer customers the very best in kitchen and cooking equipment, exceptional bargains, the unexpected and – of course – the best staff in the industry. We hope everyone hearing this news will make one more trip to ‘do some Window shopping.’”
