MN Passes 10,000 COVID-19 Deaths

The number of COVID-19 deaths exceeds the population of Mound, Minnesota.

MINNESOTA — As of Wednesday, 10,018 Minnesotans have died from COVID-19. That number is bigger than the entire population of Mound, a suburb in Hennepin County.

In November, 841 deaths were reported. Between Dec. 1 and Dec. 12, at least 312 more COVID-19 deaths occurred.

Most deaths involved cases where the patient was 65 or older. However, since the pandemic began, 38 Minnesota residents age 29 and younger have died from the virus.

Earlier this month, Minneapolis resident Pete McGinn became the state's first confirmed case of the new COVID-19 variant known as omicron.

McGinn developed mild symptoms on Nov. 22 after he traveled to New York City for an anime convention at the Javits Center, which took place from Nov. 19-21.
