'We're Overwhelmed': MN Hospitals Plead In Full Page Newspaper Ad

MINNESOTA — Minnesota hospital leaders are pleading with residents in a full-page ad that appeared in state newspapers this week, stating that they are "overwhelmed" due to the latest COVID-19 surge.

Officials from all major hospital systems in Minnesota warn that the surge is causing delays in emergency care for all patients, not just those with the virus.

"Our emergency departments are overfilled, and we have patients in every bed in our hospitals," their letter states.

"Now, an ominous question looms: will you be able to get care from your local community hospital without delay? Today, that's uncertain."

The letter asks residents to:

  • Get vaccinated
  • Wear a mask and social distance
  • Get tested for COVID-19 if you feel sick

As of Tuesday, there is only one adult ICU bed available in the entire Twin Cities metro area, according to state data. In west-central rural Minnesota, there are no pediatric ICU bends.

On Monday, 46 COVID-19 deaths were reported in the state, and 3,655 new cases were reported.
