Man Identified In Afton State Park Beach Drowning

A man was swimming about 30 feet offshore in the St. Croix River when people lost sight of him, authorities said.

AFTON, MN — The 27-year-old man who drowned in the St. Croix River last week has been identified. Jeremey Andrew Paulson was swimming in Afton State Park Beach when he went under, authorities said.

On July 3 at about 9:40 a.m., the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Afton State Park Beach near the campgrounds for a possible drowning.

Witnesses said Paulson was swimming 20-30 feet offshore but eventually lost sight of the man.

Emergency teams from multiple agencies responded, and the Lower St. Croix Valley Fire Department located him in about 18 feet of water.

Paulson was transported to Regions Hospital, where he was declared deceased.
