How do you know the teacher?

I collaborated with this teacher at Coronado High School to produce a high quality Literary Magazine. Ms. Pavesich-Hamburg's students provided amazing photographs; my students provided the creative writing poems, short stories, and anecdotes. Without the beautiful photographic artwork, many of the pieces of writing would probably not have been read. The photography students always provided the cover art for the magazine. These became collectibles for many who appreciated the students' talented results

Why do you believe the teacher should be recognized or honored?

Ms Pavesich-Hamburg's students are unarguably immersed in their learning and truly excited to learn new things, to experiment, and to excel -- winning various awards. From Beginners to Advanced Placement students, these young people are finding their voices through photography. It is exhilarating to witness this high level accomplishment year after year. Their optimism and accomplishments are indicative of outstanding Student-Teacher interactions. Expert instruction. Successful students!

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the teacher?

Chrissy's ebullient, can-do nature, so genuinely reinforcing of colleagues, administration, and students is positively contagious. Her students can and do. Because Chrissy can and does. It is a beautifully successful partnership. And isn’t that what true excellence in teaching should be? I am a former Teacher of the Year twice, so I feel I can make this nomination with some insight into what is notable and deserving of recognition. Example of excellence in action: In Las Vegas we have The Sphere. A contest was recently held to select art to be displayed on the giant venue. From a national news service:

"The winners were announced in the 'XO Student Design Challenge, where students competed to get their artwork displayed on Las Vegas' Sphere venue. The performance venue, with a massive 366-foot high LED exterior, organized the contest to celebrate Independence Day through the eyes of local aspiring artists."

One of Chrissy’s students won this award! This does not happen by accident. It is because Ms Pavesich-Hamburg consistently demonstrates not only expertise in teaching all levels of photography, but also adds the essential ingredients that spark not only student curiosity and experimentation, but success -- she respects and cares for each student. Ms Pavesich-Hamburg creates a safe and nurturing environment where all students may live up to their potential. What a win-win!
