Nashua Community College is offering a new Nutrition and Wellness Associate in Science degree program starting Fall 2024.

“It’s a combination of health science and culinary arts,” said Allison Rheaume, Professor and Nutrition and Wellness Program Coordinator at NCC. “The goal is to create a degree that will help our students earn their associate degree and move on to a four-year school for a bachelor’s degree in dietetics, or head straight into the industry as a nutritionist; and that spans anywhere from healthcare, food service, food science, sports nutrition, health coaches, medical nutrition therapy, pharmacist, community health worker, and believe it or not – an animal nutritionist.”

Professor Rheaume said the breadth of the program, plus local demand, will create a pathway to success for students. “You get a foundation in so much, and there’s such a need; we’re looking at a 13 percent growth in New Hampshire over the next few years, there’s a need to have that nutrition base.”

A new Food Service Systems – or Serve Safe – course will also be available for students, offering an introduction to sanitation and public health related to the food service industry.

The Nutrition and Wellness degree will also represent another option for high school students taking Culinary Arts classes through Early College (formerly Running Start) classes.
