MANCHESTER, NH — Manchester police reported a man wanted in connection to a shooting that occurred in Manchester Wednesday morning has turned himself in to police.

Diogene Nsengiyumva, 22, of Manchester, turned himself in Wednesday night in connection with a shooting inside a Maple Street convenience store, according to MPD Spokesperson Heather Hamel. He was accused of first-degree assault, reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, and theft by unauthorized taking, Hamel said.

Police responded to a report of a shooting at the El Pacero Market at 326 Maple St. at about 9:50 a.m. At about the same time, a 27-year-old man arrived at the Elliot Hospital via a private vehicle with a gunshot wound.

Officers at the store spoke to the workers, who said two men came in and appeared to have started arguing on the street. The argument continued inside the store. Workers said they saw a gun and heard a shot and took cover behind the counter for their safety. After the gun was fired, both men left the store and were gone when the workers came up from behind the counter.

Manchester Police Chief Aldenberg said at the scene that the video from inside the store is high-quality. Police have reviewed the video and said they were able to identify the suspect, Nsengiyumva.

Based on the audio in the video, it appears the men knew each other, and this does not appear to be a random act.

The victim is at the Elliot Hospital, and police describe the victim’s injuries as critical, but he is in stable condition.

No workers at the store were physically injured, however they were visibly shaken by the incident.
