CONCORD, NH — An arrest has been made in the case of the death of a Lakes Region boy on Christmas Eve 2019.

New Hampshire State Police, the Belknap County Attorney, and Laconia police chief reported Friday that Sherry Connor, 61, had been indicted and arrested on multiple charges connected to the death of a juvenile in Laconia on Dec. 24, 2019. While Col. Mark Hall, Chief Matthew Canfield, and Keith Cormier, the attorney for the county, did not announce the specific name of the child killed, Dennis “Boo” Vaughan Jr., 5, is the only unsolved death that is known to have occurred on that day in Laconia.

Vaughan’s death has been a mystery for many years. Connor was the prime suspect since he died while in her care at her Laconia apartment. According to a story by Annmarie Timmins of the New Hampshire Bulletin last year, several DCYF complaints about conditions in the home were determined to be unfounded or ignored. The suspect told her, during an interview, that Vaughan died of natural causes, even though the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head and neck as a result of homicide. Connor called the ruling by the medical examiner “bulls---,” according to Timmins’ reporting.

While the deaths of Harmony Montgomery and Elijah Lewis garnered statewide attention from pols and the press, Vaughan’s death was virtually unmentioned, which has puzzled activists who have been trying to find an answer for why the little boy died.
