Man Charged In Connection To Death Of NH Brig. Gen. John Pogorek

Paul Clement, 81, of Rochester, is accused of leaving the scene of the fatal Rochester accident and is accused of conduct after an accident.

ROCHESTER, NH — An 81-year-old man is accused in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident that took the life of NH Brigadier General John Pogorek, 57, of Strafford.

On Tuesday, Paul Clement of Rochester turned himself in on a warrant issued for the accident on Crown Point Road in July, according to police. Clement was accused of conduct after an accident resulting in injury/death. He was released on personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in Strafford County Superior Court on Sept. 2 at 8:30 a.m.

Police, firefighters, and Frisbie EMS responded to 10 Crown Point Road in July after receiving a report of a pedestrian accident. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2014 Toyota Tundra pulling a trailer, driven by Pogorek, was stopped on the side of the roadway and outside of his vehicle, re-securing a load on his trailer. A red Toyota RAV4, driving west on Crown Point Road, struck the victim while outside of his vehicle. The driver of the RAV4 was accused of continuing to drive without stopping.

Not long after the accident, police received a tip that Clement was the driver of the vehicle that struck Pogorek. Police located Clement and the vehicle, which was impounded.
