Bill Credit Coming For NJ Natural Gas Customers

NEW JERSEY — Natural gas customers of one New Jersey supplier will get a bit of their money back after the supplier's parent company was bought out.

Customers of Elizabethtown Gas will receive two credits on their bills in the next year, the utility supplier said.

Elizabethtown Gas serves more than 300,000 residential, industrial, and business customers in Union, Middlesex, Sussex, Warren, Hunterdon, Morris, and Mercer counties. Its parent company is South Jersey Industries, which was acquired by Infrastructure Investment Fund (IIF) in February.

The first credit of $41.55 will be included on customers' first bills after April 26, and the second will come after April 26, 2024. The second payment amount has not yet been announced.

"These credits reinforce our customer commitment to delivering natural gas affordability," said Elizabethtown Gas.

The market cost for natural gas is also decreasing, and the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities approved a 30.2 percent rate decrease for natural gas charges, which affected New Jersey customers' bills beginning March 1.

For residential customers using 100 therms during a typical winter month, this is a cost savings of $44.98 per month, said Elizabethtown Gas.

There was also a slight increase fort he Consolidated Adjustment Charges (“CAC”) on customers' bills beginning in February.
