Professors At This NJ College Are Best In The State: Study
Students at this campus gave their instructors top marks, and a recent study shows NJ has some of the best-rated professors in the nation.
NEW JERSEY — The Garden State is home to several prestigious colleges and universities, and a new study says that some of the top-rated professors in the country work on campuses across New Jersey.
A recent study from CollegeRover, a site that allows users to collect and compare information for colleges and universities, rated New Jersey college professors among the best in the country. In fact, the new analysis found New Jersey’s professors rank 4th in the nation — only Utah, Georgia, and Nevada professors ranked higher.
To determine which state had the best professors, CollegeRover analyzed data from the well-known student review site RateMyProfessors.com and compared more than 79,000 professors at more than 2,100 schools in the United States and the United Kingdom.

The study then broke down the best-of lists by subject and by state. Rankings were based on the average score from anonymous reviews on RateMyProfessors.
“Let's face it — a good (or not-so-great) professor can make or break a university course,” the CollegeRover team wrote.

New Jersey had an average professor rating of 3.6 out of 5, according to the study.
Georgian Court University in Lakewood had the best professors in the state with a 4.0 score. Meanwhile, Centenary University in Hackettstown ranked the lowest with a 2.7 score.
On average, U.S. professors earned an average 3.4 rating out of 5. While Utah received the highest score at 3.6, North Dakota ranked lowest overall with an average professor rating of 3.0.
The college with the best-rated instructors in the nation was Monroe College in New York City, where students gave their professors an average 4.3 rating. Coahoma Community College in Mississippi and the now-defunct Hussian College - Clarksville in Tennessee were the worst-rated in the country with an average 0.3 rating, according to CollegeRover.
For prospective students who want to look beyond the ratings, CollegeRover said students should reach out to recent graduates and the college’s alumni office to see if they can provide more information.
“Remember to consider multiple factors in your search: from school rankings and professor ratings to athletic offerings and physical location,” CollegeRover’s staff advised. “Also remember that the best school for you may not be on a flashy list or excel in every discipline-you only need it to excel in your field and check the boxes on your list. With a little research and an open mind, we're confident you'll find the right school for you.”
