Tornado Watch Extended In 11 NJ Counties

The tornado watch issued Friday morning has been extended for 11 New Jersey counties. The tornado watch means tornadoes are possible in and near the watch area. Residents in the watch area should be ready to act quickly if a warning is issued.

The watch is in place in the following New Jersey counties: Bergen, Essex, Mercer, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Morris, Somerset, Passaic, Sussex, Union and Warren.

There are several additional advisories in place on what is expected to be a wet, stormy day as the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby make their way across the area.

There is a wind advisory in place through 8 p.m. "Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Frequent gusts of 35 to 45 mph winds will be possible which when combined with saturated grounds will have the potential to bring down trees. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result," the National Weather Service said.

There is a flood watch in place through 1 a.m.

Heavy rainfall associated with the remnants of Debby will produce rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches with locally higher amounts of 3 inches or more possible, forecasters warn.

The storm is expected to clear out by Saturday, when sunny skies and a high of 84 is forecasted.
