OCEAN TOWNSHIP, NJ - Speedsters will have to think twice before racing down Ocean Township streets in the coming weeks, officials said.

Over the course of the next two weeks, new speed bumps are slated to be installed on three streets spanning the township, officials said in a statement posted to Facebook Tuesday.

The speed bumps will be installed on Lake Avenue, Bimbler Boulevard and Park Boulevard, according to the post. Motorists are urged to use caution.

While some residents criticized the move (“paving roads would be a better use of money,” one commenter wrote), other Facebook users welcomed the bumps, citing poor lighting and no sidewalks on Park Boulevard.

“Although speed bumps are not ideal, they are a welcomed improvement,” one user wrote. “My dog was hit by a car on Park Blvd and the car didn’t even stop. It’s dangerous for so many families walking with little ones.”

Residents also noted several other roads in need of speed controls, such as Logan Road, Appleby Drive, and Bowne Road.

On Bowne Road, motorists “come off of Cold Indian so ridiculously fast, I'm waiting for them to hit one of our houses,” one user wrote.

“It’s become the Autobahn from Sunset to Deal Road,” another commenter said of Logan Road.

Alternative solutions to speeding en masse included lowering speed limits, bike lane installations and four-way stops.

“I wish there was a safe crosswalk for students who ride bikes to wayside elementary school at the bowne and deal road four way stop. It’s very unsafe and SO many kids ride their bikes,” one user wrote.
