Asbury Park School District Gets Over $15M In COVID Relief Grants
The grant money is funded by the CARES act and will help the district help with handling expenditures stemming from the pandemic.
ASBURY PARK, NJ – The Asbury Park School District received two Emergency and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) grants totaling $15,658,350 from the New Jersey Department of Education last week.
The ESSER grants were given to the Department of Education through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act passed back in March. The CARES Act provides states with direct funding to address the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on school districts in every state. Each district's total amount is based on the amount of Title 1 funding that the district receives from the federal government.
"We know our students and educators have had a difficult year," Governor Phil Murphy said back in February.
