Ghost Harbor Looks To Be The Creative Hub For Asbury's Arts Scene

Since opening up almost a year ago, Asbury Park's Ghost Harbor Creative has given artists of all types an outlet during the pandemic.

ASBURY PARK, NJ – Opening up a new business, especially a space for the arts, is a daunting enough task. Still, imagine doing it smack dab in the middle of a pandemic where everyone is stuck inside their homes.

That is precisely what Caroline Davidson did when she opened Ghost Harbor Creative, a mixed-media space on 714 Bangs Avenue in Asbury Park.

According to Davidson, she opened up Ghost Harbor to give artists of all types and chance to share their work and collaborate with other artists.

“I moved to Asbury Park at the beginning of the pandemic,” Davidson said. “I fell in love with Asbury and its inclusive arts community and wanted to help, so I finally decided to open a space.”

Since its opening, Ghost Harbor has been the host to many different events, from art exhibits and poetry readings to stand-up comedy. Ghost Harbor has also hosted concerts, which has seen some of the up-and-coming local acts in the Asbury scene put on shows.

Davidson feels that Asbury Park has a great scene and needs a place like Ghost Harbor.

“I feel that Asbury Park is the perfect combination of all of the various arts, and I think that the Shore didn’t have a space where artists could collaborate and work together.”

On Sept. 25, Ghost Harbor will mark its first anniversary, and Davidson plans on holding more events throughout the fall, including more workshops and crossover events that bring together different types of artists.

Ghost Harbor’s next event is a “Bye Bye Benny Bash” benefit show on Friday evening with performances from Jarod Clemens and the Late Nights, Party Wave, and Psykedelic Oven Mitt. There is a suggested $20 donation at the door, with all proceeds going to the New Jersey Coalition Against Sexual Assault.
