Horrific Discovery Shuts Down Rail Service In Asbury Park Area

Rail service was shut down in the Asbury Park area on Tuesday.

Police were continuing to investigate a body that was found in Manasquan on Tuesday, south of Asbury Park.

Rail service in the area was shut down between Long Branch and Bay Head on Tuesday morning, officials said. The service has since resumed.

The incident happened at approximately 5:15 a.m. just after North Jersey Coast Line train 3310 departed Bay Head at 4:54 a.m., according to Jim Smith, a NJ Transit spokesman. The train was scheduled to arrive at Penn Station in New York at 6:41 a.m..

The train reported the discovery of a body and a motorcycle on the tracks in Manasquan, Smith said.

The scene was discovered upon the train’s arrival, Smith said. The crew of train 3310 reported they did not strike the individual.

The North Jersey Coast Line service was suspended in both directions between Bay Head and Long Branch. New Jersey Transit Police were on scene investigating to obtain further details.
