ASBURY PARK, NJ — A quirky, iconic bar on the Asbury Park boardwalk has been named among the best spots in America for people to grab a drink, meet with friends, and catch a live concert.

The Wonder Bar nabbed one of 27 spots on USA Today’s inaugural "Bars of the Year" list, which was selected by the publication’s network of food writers across the nation — including at the Asbury Park Press.

"These bars represent the best neighborhood taverns, the finest cocktail meccas, the coziest wine bars and the beachiest beach bars," USA Today wrote.

Wonder Bar (1213 Ocean Avenue, Asbury Park) was one of two New Jersey bars on the list, alongside Tierney’s Tavern in Montclair.

"Thank you to USA Today, the rockstars, our four-legged best friends, and our community!" the bar said in a social media post, alongside the Asbury Park boardwalk.

So, what made the historic rock bar stand out...even more than its grinning Tillie tribute? Manager Debbie DeLisa said it's the community that makes Wonder Bar so special, with reviewers also highlighting the circular bar design, the four-legged friends at Yappy Hour, and the dance floor.

And, of course, live music is a big draw at Wonder Bar for both regulars and first-timers — with Asbury Park native Bruce Springsteen among the long list of previous performers (and regular guests).
