ASBURY PARK, NJ — An Asbury Park man who the prosecutor said was running from police Wednesday fell as he was climbing out the window of a four-story apartment.

The man survived the fall and remains hospitalized as of Friday, said a spokesman for the Monmouth County Prosecutor.

The man was only identified as a 56-year-old city resident. Police say he is a suspect in a number of recent downtown burglaries in Asbury Park.

Police say at approximately 9 a.m. Wednesday, an Asbury Park police officer identified the man on the 1000 block of Comstock Street. The officer ordered the man to stop, but he refused and instead entered a nearby apartment building.

When officers entered the building and reached the fourth-floor common hallway, they were told the man had climbed out a window in one of the fourth-floor apartments, and then fallen to the ground below.
