ASBURY PARK, NJ — The newly upgraded Atkins Avenue Spray Park will have its grand reopening and ribbon cutting at 12 noon on Monday, June 5, the city of Asbury Park announced.

The spray park, at 305 Atkins Avenue, received $376,000 in state funding to upgrade its 25-year-old equipment and infrastructure.

Upgrades include the addition of a Lightning Detection System, which will shut off water to equipment when lighting is detected in the area, new and updated equipment, including a new play area for toddlers, plus the installation of a canopy, picnic tables and benches.

“We are proud to be able to provide recreational opportunities for the Asbury Park community,” said Asbury Park Mayor John Moor. "The city’s 25-year-old spray park was long overdue for an equipment upgrade which we could not have done without Cassandra Dickerson’s hard work and the crucial funding provided by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development ’s Community Development Block Grant program. Amenities like this bring people together and build community.”
