ASBURY PARK, NJ - Asbury Park, meet your newest downtown neighbor.

Killer Pies, a gourmet pizza and craft soda restaurant, opened its doors March 30 to the downtown Asbury Park community.

Located at 649 Mattison Avenue, Killer Pies is housed in a 8,600-square-foot bank building. It’s the former location of Trinity and the Pope and Skratch. Alongside Killer Pies, developer Sackman Enterprises seeks to lease the space for a multi-floor office facility upstairs. Previous Coverage: Pizza Joint, Office Facility Proposed In Asbury Park

Co-owner Andrew Mahnken previously told Patch that he was inspired to bring the old-school pizzeria vibe to Asbury Park.

Mahnken, a former GM of the now-closed Brickwall Tavern, feels that there's a "lost art of pizza" that Killer Pies wants to reclaim.

"There's a void for a slice shop downtown," said Mahnken, who has been living in Asbury Park for the past 13 years.

The pizzeria is co-owned by Dennis Masel of Jersey City cocktail bar The Archer.

Inside, you’ll find kaleidoscopic colors and a vibrant musical blend of hip hop and rock, paired with artisan pies such as the green, mushroom and clam pies. Prices vary between $3.50 to $4.50 a slice to up to $32 for a pie.

Other offerings include in-house signature sodas: lavender lemon, ginger lime, orange vanilla, chocolate and raspberry.

The reason behind the craft sodas? “I think soda is a bit of a lost art as well. So we're trying to create a bar-like vibe without the alcohol,” Mahnken added.

The location is also BYOB for beer and wine.

The new pizza joint arrives just as longtime favorite Medusa Stone Fired Kitchen on 4th Avenue shut down in February. Read more: Beloved Asbury Park Pizzeria To Shutter After 6 Years
