Belmar Taco Restaurant Opens Asbury Park Location

The owner of Los Barbaros Birria, serving Tijuana-style tacos dipped in ramen broth, is also currently scouting a third outpost in Brick.

ASBURY PARK, NJ — Jersey Shore residents, get ready to experience some Tijuana-style Mexican food.

The owner of a taco shop in Belmar, Los Barbaros Birria, will open their second location in Asbury Park this May. Their Instagram account has 12,000+ followers.

The news was first reported by the Asbury Park Press, but owner Edwin Vazquez confirmed it to Patch Tuesday. Not only that, but he's currently scouting a third location in Brick and is looking to open a fourth in East Brunswick, with ultimate dreams to serve his unique, Mexican-style street food in Manhattan.

"I want to be like the Mexican version of In-and-Out burger," he told Patch. "I grew up in Asbury Park; I live in Asbury Park and I got my start serving my tacos out of my home to friends. The business just grew from there. I always wanted to return to Asbury and open a place here. Business has been good."

Vazquez is from Tijuana and he said most Americans are not familiar with the type of tacos that are traditionally served there: "It's Mexican fast food. In Mexico, we don't usually eat tacos with cheese, but we started adding lots of melted mozzarella for the tourists. It's really good together."

Also, unique to Los Barbaros Birria is that it serves a Mexican-version of ramen, which is noodles in a spicy, flavorful beef broth (birria means beef or meat). Eat like the cool kids and dunk Vazquez's freshly-made fried beef tacos and tortas sandwiches in the beef broth, and then slurp down the noodles.

His existing Belmar taco shop is at 1110 Main Street in Belmar, 848-404-9041 and he will open in May in a now-closed Mexican restaurant in Asbury Park - 704 Main Street, Asbury Park

"I just signed the papers (to lease) last week," he told Patch. "We are going to open in three to four weeks, sometime in May."
