Belleville Tax Lien Sale; Local Homes At Risk

The buyers and sellers of debt will turn their eyes to Belleville on Dec. 28.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — The buyers and sellers of debt will cast their eyes to Belleville at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 28, when municipal officials hold a public auction for unpaid tax liens on local properties at Belleville Town Hall.

According to a municipal notice, officials will conduct an auction of several outstanding tax liens on Belleville homes. While property tax and water bills can be ordinarily paid online via the township website, if a homeowner becomes subject to a tax lien, they will need to visit the Belleville Tax Collector’s Office in person to resolve the debt. New Jersey law requires all 566 municipalities to hold at least one tax sale per year if the municipality has delinquent property taxes and/or municipal charges. Winning bidders must immediately pay municipalities the outstanding taxes and interest.
