Teen Killed Crossing Street Was A Central Regional Student

Police have not released the 17-year-old boy's name after the fatal accident in Toms River.

BERKELEY, NJ — The teenager killed trying to cross the street Sunday in Toms River was a Central Regional High School student, the district confirmed. Police have not publicly identified the 17-year-old boy.

"It is difficult to predict how students will react to such a tragic event," the Central Regional School District wrote on social media. "We encourage parents to talk to their children to ensure they are okay."

Central Regional staff have been notified. The district's crisis team will help students in need.

The accident took place shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday on Route 37. The teen was leaving work, according to Toms River police. The driver traveled eastbound with a green light as the teen crossed in the southbound direction, authorities said.

Speed wasn't a factor, and the driver wasn't impaired, according to preliminary investigation.
