New Milford Community Members Honored By Rep. Josh Gottheimer

During his Fifth District Hometown Heroes Ceremony​ last Friday, the congressman honored 60 residents for their dedication to the community.

NEW MILFORD, NJ — Two New Milford residents were recognized for their dedication to the community by U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer, from New Jersey's 5th Congressional District.

During his Fifth District Hometown Heroes Ceremony last Friday, the U.S. representative honored 60 residents from the Fifth District for their dedication to the community.

Among them were first responders, veterans, students, life-saving bystanders, volunteers, scouts and community leaders.

"We are lucky to have so many unsung heroes in our communities, whose quiet power of service goes on every day without the recognition they truly deserve. They just do it because they care. Today is their day,” Gottheimer said.

Robert Byrnes Jr., a career firefighter and current Captain at the Bergenfield Fire Department, was one of the New Milford residents distinguished during the ceremony. He has received multiple honors for his two remarkable life-saving rescues: a 65-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl at the local high school.

Larry Bauer, who is also known locally as Mr. Teaneck, was also recognized for his "outsized leadership role in his community" and for going "out of his way to make Teaneck a better place."

Bauer served as the President of the Teaneck Chamber of Commerce and supported the Teaneck International Film Festival, the Pride Awareness Advisory Board and the Historic New Bridge Landing Commission.
