Brick Hockey Player Brings Home Gold From Maccabi Games

Jake Lakatos and his juniors teammates were undefeated in winning the championship.

BRICK, NJ — Brick Township's Jake Lakatos will be honored Tuesday night at the Brick Township Council meeting, after the goaltender and his Team USA teammates brought home the gold from the World Maccabi Games earlier this month.

The World Maccabiah Games, "the Jewish Olympics" as they are often called, are the world’s largest Jewish athletic competition in the tradition and values of Maccabi, emphasizing the centrality of the State of Israel in the life of the Jewish people, according to the Maccabiah website.

Lakatos, who graduated from Brick Township High School in June and plays for the Philadelphia Junior Flyers Elite team in the Eastern Hockey League, was in Israel with the junior men's ice hockey team from early July through last week. Team USA went undefeated in five games,
